Our offices have recently came into information regarding R.W.
Brother Amos Johnson, Facts: At this point this is all the information available to us. The
Brothers and Sister of our namesake lodge and chapter are extremely
interested in obtaining more information about Amos Johnson. At the
present we have been able to obtain some form of information in the
Boone County newspapers from 1871 thru 1891, also 1892 thru 1901. We
are still pondering if he was an A.M.E. minister. Is there or was there
a lodge in Macon city and do records exists? This means that we have
spent a lot of time writing to lodges in Iowa, to no avail. We have
searched old Missouri slave records and have come up empty. After
researching we have come to a conclusion that Amos Johnson was never a
slave! One now can understand and only wonder, through his writings, he
left posterity how strong a Masonic pedigree we really have. Although
early in the game may we dare to research his English heritage and find
another fraternal tie in our history?
