UMKC Staff Awards

Each year, Staff Awards are presented to staff members who you have nominated as those who best exemplify who we are and where we are going at UMKC. You know these individuals in our community because they are committed to:

Some of the characteristics that you see in these “everyday leaders” are:  vision, affiliation, pacesetting, inclusiveness and acknowledgement of others, integrity, resonance, and an ability to inspire others.

This year, three (3) awards will be presented to staff members whom you nominate as those who best exemplify who we are and where we are going at UMKC. 
This Year's Awards will be exemplify:

Education First

  • Recognizes that students are integral to everything we do

  • Promotes scholarship in all its forms

  • Creates and encourages the desire to learn by setting examples and mentoring

  • Promotes research and sharing of knowledge

  • Recognizes and rewards excellence

  • Is committed to lifelong learning 

Campus Collaboration

  • Recognizes that students are integral to everything we do

  •  Encourages free, honest and candid communication

  • Accepts responsibility for shared ownership

  • Promotes creativity, critical thinking and interdisciplinary cooperation

  • Is committed to sharing both information and decision-making

  • Seeks, supports and celebrates the diversity of all people

  • Is sensitive and respectful to differences in learning styles, ideas and beliefs

  • Fosters academic and intellectual freedom

A True Unsung Hero

  • Recognizes that students are integral to everything we do

  • Knows that their success feeds into the success of others

  • Sets an example of leadership, commitment and a strong work ethic

  • Strives to make UMKC a better place to work so that others will want to experience our campus life as a staff member or a student

  • Gives of themselves in an effort to improve our student's life on campus on a daily basis

  • Is committed to our community, our students' welfare and UMKC's future

Nominations: Nominations should specify the category for which the individual is being nominated.

  • The Staff Awards Nomination Form is required, and may include supporting documentation. It should be submitted via campus mail or email

  •  Self-nominations are accepted

  • Staff Council Board Members are not eligible for nomination; to see who they are, go here!

  • Eligible staff members must be officially designated as full-time employees at UMKC.

Selection: Emphasis in selection will be on the nominees who have demonstrated commitment to our students and to UMKC, and who embody the qualities found in each of the following categories.

  • (REQUIRED)   Nomination Form should be filled out completely
  • (NOT REQUIRED)   Inclusion of evidence or measures that support the nomination
  • (NOT REQUIRED)  The citation of the individual's impact on or involvement with a conversion, reinvention or change at UMKC that has had a definite impact on our students, community and UMKC
